Welcome to 8th grade Social Studies, I look forward to working with you to ensure a productive as well as successful academic year. The focus of study is on the development of our nation through the lens of North Carolina. We will embark on many adventures as we explore important events dating back to Pre-Colonial North America through the 21st century. The main curriculum strands include: civics and government, culture, economy, geography, and history.

Class Expectations::
1. Come to class with a positive attitude and be ready to learn.
2. Be prepared every day with all class materials.
3. Keep an organized notebook.
4. Review your notes 10-15 minutes every night.
5. Complete all class assignments and turn in on time with the appropriate heading (name, date, class period).
6. Unless otherwise specified, write in black/ blue ink for major assignments especially projects and essays. You may use pencil for minor and intermediate assignments (classwork, homework, quizzes).
7. Come every day with an open mind and be respectful of other classmates’ opinion even if you disagree.
Class Procedure
1. Come to class on time daily.
2. Take care of any needs during class change (water, rest room, locker, etc.).Four emergency passes will be given each grading quarter to be used as such.
3. By the late bell, be seated, have your materials ready and start your warm ups.
4. Raise your hand and wait for teacher permission before speaking.
5. get permission before getting out of your seat.
6. Be respectful and courteous at all times, especially during class discussions.
7. Late Work: Please note that 5 points will be deducted from late assignments every day for no more than 5 days.
